Kellie Pickler Named Prom Queen
The two dancers representing country music on ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars' are headed in very different directions. Kellie Pickler amazed the judges and live audience on Monday night (April 1) with a "ridiculously amazing" Jive set to 'Footloose.' Her score of 25 led the night, while Wynonna Judd's 15 for her Samba was the lowest tally.
The stress of the competition seemed to be getting to Pickler for the first time, as partner Derek Hough was seen really pushing her during rehearsal footage. The singer described his "wasp face," a look he gets when he's not pleased with her moves. The professional said he thinks his partner can be great, so he's being tough with her. On the dance floor they created magic, looking at times like Derek and Julianne Hough dancing together instead of Derek and a "amateur."
"You're sharper than a samurai sword!" judge Bruno Tonioli shouted. Highlights from the fact-paced Jive included Pickler doing the splits twice in a row before finishing in the position and holding it with a smile. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said the 'Tough' singer's knees were stiff at times, but otherwise, she was brilliant.
Judd and partner Tony Dovolani worked on their sexy for a Samba to Def Leppard's 'Pour Some Sugar on Me.' The country singer seemed determined to avenge last week's performance, but once they stepped on the floor, the couple wasn't able to recreate their best rehearsals. "You gotta ride the Samba … you gotta hit it hard," Tonioli said.
Len Goodman may have had the harshest critiques, comparing Judd to Mt. Rushmore. Judd took to Twitter after the show to react, remaining positive in the face of low scores. "I am humbled tonight. I am so grateful to
@TonyDovolani for continuing to teach me," she tweeted.
