After hearing all the advertisements about flu shots, I decided to drop in at a local drug store and get one.

Pharmacist Tim Irons told me (before poking my arm) it’s extremely important now as in October---preferably before the first holiday which would be Thanksgiving---to get a flu shot. Right now is the best time to get it. Getting a flu shot now is part of a healthy lifestyle.”

But, what if you don’t get the Flu Shot now?

“The idea here is to shorten the duration and/or severity of the flu. I can’t prevent it. But, the shot does help so that a person who has the flu won’t be down from work for a week or so.”

Unlike last year, the Center for Disease Control says this year’s shot is pretty effective!

“Last year the CDC reports the shot was 26 percent effective and this year, they tell us it’s considerably higher.”

So, just how long does the shot last?

“Through the spring,”

With that being said, Tim stuck me with the needle---and knock on wood---God willing I don’t come down with the flu!

By the way, the Centers for Disease Control recommends a yearly flu vaccination for everyone six months and older. It is also important for people 65 and older, pregnant women, caregivers, and people with chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, and lung disease to be vaccinated.
