If there's a child in your family that loves to draw, they now have the opportunity to show their artistic abilities and maybe win a prize.

The South Dakota Department of Agriculture Wildland Fire Division is sponsoring the Wildfire Awareness Week Poster Contest.  Helping to celebrate Wildfire Awareness Week on May 2nd through 10th, the theme of the contest is 'Wildfire Prevention'.  All kids living in South Dakota are able to make a poster.

The 'Wildfire Prevention' poster contest will have two groups.  Group 1 is kids ages five to eight and Group 2 is for kids ages nine to twelve.  A prize will be awarded to the winner of each group.

All posters must be drawn by hand, the use of computers is prohibited.  The posters should be no larger than 11” x 17” and done with paint, markers, crayons or colored pencils.

Only one poster per child is allowed and must be completed without help by an adult or outside source.  Each poster must also have an entry form attached.  You can read the 'Wildfire Prevention' Awareness Week poster contest rules and download an entry form.

All entries must be postmarked by Friday, April 25, 2014 and mailed to:

You can email Cindy Hansen (cindy.hansen@state.sd.us) if you have any questions or would like more information.
