Is NASCAR Out To Get Brad Keselowski?

Brad Keselowski seems as if he’s perpetually backed into a corner. The hounds have surrounded the driver of the Blue Deuce and he’s going to whip as many of them he can before the white flag of surrender goes up.

Keselowski during his racing career has had no shortage of detractors. Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin have at one time or another lock horns with “Bad Brad.” Being the defending Sprint Cup champion also separates you from the stack.

However the latest two incidents involving the Penkse racing driver have turned his venom away from the competition, to the sanctioning body of NASCAR. At Martinsville, Keselowski was penalized for a borderline or bogus infraction during a pit stop. The official assigned to the Miller Lite Ford’s pit stall claimed that a portion of the car was outside the stall during a stop. Overhead shots dispute that claim. Fortunately, Keselowski was able to recover from the incident and finish 6th.

Most recently, NASCAR just happened to find something amiss with the rear-end housing on both Brad’s car and teammate Joey Logano’s car just before the start of the NRA 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Keselowski’s car was deemed ready during driver introductions while the command to start engines had already taken place when Logano’s car made it to the starting grid. By rule, Logano had to start in the back because of the inspection delays, but Logano charged all the way to 5th. Keselowski took 9th. Then after the race Keselowski ranted about his plight and alluded to some kind of vendetta that NASCAR has against him.  Click here to see the rant.  Why would NASCAR fool with Keselowski anyway?  Maybe there's a "hangover" from when he won the title last year and was admittedly under the influence during an ESPN interview.

It brings to mind the TV show “Dukes of Hazzard” where the Dukes fought “The System” of local law enforcement to administer their own kind of justice. How can you not root for a man who is willing to stand up and fight? About the only thing better is to add a horn to Keselowski’s car that plays “Dixie” as he passes by the flag stand.

NASCAR has yet to rule on the legality of the Penske parts, but in an interview with Fox Business, President Brian France flatly stated that Keselowski will not be fined for his comments following the race.  France disagrees with the reigning champ's assertions, but states "The beauty of NASCAR is that we let the drivers express themselves."  See the Brian France interview here.
