Here’s a reminder that with the warm weather this past week, ice fishing conditions are risky at best. Thankfully fishing buddies stuck together to drop a line some other day.

Following is from a press release from the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department, Hartford Fire and Rescue, Humboldt Fire and Rescue, and the Humboldt Ambulance were dispatched to 258th Street and Scotts Avenue as a report of a fisherman who was ice fishing on Scott’s Slough had fallen through the ice.

The caller stated that the fishermen was about 100 yards north of the boat dock. It appears that a total of three fishermen were on the ice in two separate locations.

Once the first fishermen had fallen through the ice, a second fishermen attempted to offer assistance when he also [fell] through the ice. When the second fishermen fell through the ice, he was rescued by the third fishermen that he was with.

The two fishermen [were] able to return to shore while the first fisherman remained in the water. Members of the Hartford Fire Department were able to reach the fishermen in the water by using a rescue back board to assist the fishermen in getting back onto the ice and to shore.

The fishermen was seen by medical personal. There are no reported injuries, and they were able to leave the scene in their own vehicles.
