Huset’s Racer Gary Brown, Jr. Is Ready For 2013 [VIDEO]
Gary Brown, Jr., whether your cheering for him or not, your eyes tend to gravitate to him on the track. Reason being, he’s usually putting on a display of driving in his green #22 stock car.
He first made an appearance at Huset’s Speedway at the World of Outlaws event in July of 1998. I remember it well. He raced in the street stock class with a silver car and won the feature.
After the race several people came to me in the announcer’s room and asked: ‘Who was that guy that won?’
All I could tell them was his name and that he was some new driver out of Winner, SD.
Well, since that night nearly 15 years ago things have changed a lot. Nobody’s asking anymore who he is, he’s long since moved from Winner, SD to here, and I can tell you a great deal more about this guy today than I could back then.
I’ve built a long friendship with Gary. I’ve announced every single lap he’s made at Huset’s Speedway as he was climbing to the top of the track’s record books.
Yes, I can tell you a story that I just don’t have room to write here. His brother Mark – who personally builds the cars you’ve seen Gary wow the crowds with – and Gary and Mark’s late father Gary Sr. have had as much of an impact on racing in this part of the country as anybody.
Gary has won more feature races than any other driver in his class at Huset’s Speedway. He enters 2013 as a 6-time and defending track champion. He recently won at I-90 Speedway at Hartford, SD where he has also had huge success.
I caught up with Gary in the pits at Huset’s Speedway on May 12th and had a quick chat with him as you can watch on the video at the bottom of this story.
I’m running the exact same car that my brother Mark built from last year. We are ready for the new season.
I can certainly understand why they would come back with same equipment. After winning 10 races at Huset’s alone last year, why change anything?
