Hunter Bork Loses His Race To Cancer
Hunter Bork was many things to many people. A son. A friend. A track star. A cancer survivor.
Hunter was one of our Cure Kids Cancer heroes. He was a hero to many people. Hunter was a profile in courage. Hunter died Wednesday just one week after his 23rd birthday.
Cancer came back into Hunter’s life in 2011. It was a race he vowed he would win.
For two years, Hunter was on a track scholarship at Dakota Wesleyan University despite losing his leg to cancer at the age of 18. His courage was displayed on the track and on the campus. He ran his events with a prosthetic leg. Sometimes it would fall off during a race, but he always came back with a vengeance.
Hunter left a lot of accomplishments. He made history. He set an American Paralympics high jump record in 2011. His cancer came back shortly after that.
Hunter was one of our kids and his loss saddens us all, but we feel that we passed through this life better off because we knew him.
