It was a busy weekend for the gang at Feeding South Dakota in Sioux Falls.

On Saturday morning, November 19 (2016) volunteers gathered to hand out Thanksgiving Day turkeys to less fortunate families here in the Sioux Empire.

KSFY TV is reporting that over 500 turkeys, complete with all the trimmings were handed out to families in need, according to Matt Gassen, the CEO of Feeding South Dakota.

Dozens of volunteers battled the cold air that morning to hand out Thanksgiving Day supplies to the people and families stopping by to receive them. Volunteers at the event all echoed the same message it was a very eye-opening and rewarding experience for them to help out.

This is the second year in a row that Feeding South Dakota and its volunteers have come together to collect items and help out families throughout the area before the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

According to Gassen, "It means a lot to us to be able to do that and we also know that we couldn't of done it without the support of a great community individuals and businesses that have supported this effort to let us do this."

Feeding South Dakota services 66 counties, with a total population of over 833,000 people. Get more information on how you can help Feeding South Dakota help families in need statewide.
