Wiener dogs on your marks, get set, go!

The wiener dogs of the Sioux Empire are getting ready to hit the ice once again during the 10th annual wiener dog races at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

KSFY TV is reporting the races will take place on Saturday, February 18 (2017) during the Sioux Falls Stampede, Bloomington Thunder hockey game happening at The Denny that evening.

A total of 40 different dachshunds will race that night in two separate races that will take place during the 1st intermission. The top two dogs from each race will advance to a final four runoff during the 2nd intermission, that will result in a champion being crowned.

Five dollars from every ticket sold that night will benefit Dakota Dachshund Rescue.

Stampede hockey players will also be wearing special jerseys the night of the race that will be auctioned off after the game, with the proceeds benefiting the Stampede Foundation for Kids and Dakota Dachshund Rescue.

If you've always dreamed of being a wiener dog owner, your dream just might come true that night as Dakota Dachshund Rescue will be on hand with dachshunds available to adopt.
