‘Vikings’ Season 3: History Renews Its Period Epic for 2015
We haven’t kept up with History’s ‘Vikings‘ season 2 as much as its predecessor, but are nonetheless excited to see that Ragnar Lothbrok and his brood will live to fight another day. History has officially picked up a ‘Vikings’ season 3 for 2015, but what can we expect from the epic period drama when it sets sail for a third time?
According to a History press release, the third season of ‘Vikings’ will again consist of the same 10 episode order, with production scheduled to begin this summer. By the time of Comic-Con 2013, the historical drama had already gathered enough footage for an impressive cut of premiere battles, which wouldn’t formally debut until February 2014.
Says History Executive Vice President Dirk Hoogstra of the expected renewal:
VIKINGS has taken viewers by storm and has established itself as one of the most compelling, visually stunning dramas on television. With its large, passionate and loyal fan base, VIKINGS has cemented HISTORY firmly in the scripted series genre, just as we are the leaders in reality television.
We are incredibly fortunate to have such an enormously talented cast and crew led by Michael Hirst whose intricately woven storylines vividly brings the unknown, epic world of these Norsemen to life. Season three promises to immerse viewers even deeper into the exploits of these fearless warriors who are willing to risk it all for conquest and power.
Now midway through its second season, History’s ‘Vikings’ features ‘World of Warcraft‘ star Travis Fimmel in the role of legendary historical figure Ragnar Lothbrok, along with Clive Standen has his brother Rollo, and Gustaf Skarsgard as the ship-building Floki. The cast also features George Blagden as Athelstan, newly-minted ‘Gotham‘ star Donal Logue as King Horrik, Jessalyn Gilsig as Siggy, Alyssa Sutherland as Princess Aslaug, and Katheryn Winnick as Lagertha. Along with ‘The Hunger Games’ Star Alexander Ludwig’s casting as an elder Bjorn, ‘Vikings’ season 2 has introduced ‘Batman Begins‘ star Linus Roache as King Ecbert of Wessex.
Well, what do you think? Did History’s ‘Vikings’ deserve a third season to pillage and plunder? How have you been enjoying season 2? Stay tuned for the latest on ‘Vikings’ seasons 2 and 3, and tell us what you want to see brought to life by the 2015 return!
