Here’s the Lyrics to the South Dakota State Song, In Case that’s Something you Need

Did you know that South Dakota has an offical state song? I guess, I kind of figured we did, we have a state soil after all, so why not a state song? Our state soil is Houdek, by the way.

Houdek is a type of soil composed of glacial till and decomposed organic matter. It is found only in the U.S.

Anyways, our state song is called "Hail, South Dakota." It was written by DeeCort Hammitt, a South Dakota native who grew-up in Alcester. In the 1920's Hammitt became the director of the Alcester Community Band. They got so famous under his direction that they were named the official state band. In 1927, they played for President Calvin Coolidge in the Black Hills. They also represented South Dakota at the Chicago World's Fair in the 1930's.

In 1943, his song "Hail, South Dakota" was chosen by popular vote as South Dakota's official state song. According to the sheet music, is to be played in Snappy March Time. Here's the lyrics:
