You'd never be able to guess by the temperatures lately, but the 4th of July is just about a month and a half away already.  Hopefully it still won't be dipping into the 30's at night by then!

With Independence Day right around the corner, the city of Sioux Falls is looking for people who are interested in entering a float in the annual Mayor's 4th of July Parade.

Local businesses, civic organizations, military groups, marching bands, clubs, and others are encouraged to participate in the event.

Last year’s parade was a huge success with nearly 80 entries and roughly 5,000 spectators. Sioux Falls mayor Mike Huether is hoping to see as many, if not more entries again this year.

Huether says,  “The 4th of July Family Parade and Picnic is one of my favorite events. Our city celebrates our country’s independence in an incredibly special way. Join in the fun this year by having a parade entry!”

Anyone interested in being part of this years 4th of July parade can sign up online through Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

Check-in for this year's parade begins at 8:15 that morning at  the intersection of Main Avenue and Tenth Street in downtown Sioux Falls.  The parade itself will kickoff at 10.

This year children are also encouraged to be part of the 4th of July celebration by decorating their bicycles and participating in the parade. Lineup for child entrants begins at 9:30 AM in the Sioux Falls Transit parking lot at East Sixth Street and North Weber Avenue. No preregistration is necessary for kids’ entries.
