Headbutting Elk (Update)
A photographer who started this innocent photoshoot with a wild elk was a bit worried at first when the elk came closer and started to smell his camera bag. When asked, he said that he kept sitting because if he would have stood up, that might have provoked the elk, plus then he would be at risk to be gored. So he continued to sit while the elk became more aggressive and until a Park Ranger came to his rescue.
Rangers say they tracked and watched the elk, and said that he was getting too aggressive with the visitors of the park. The elk was showing no fear of humans and was probably looking for food. To try to stop the problem, Rangers attempted to relocate this particular elk to a different part of the park, but he kept coming back and approaching the park visitors. Rangers also said that they have had no other problems with the other elk in the park, since reintroducing them to the Smokies ten years ago.
