A man Sioux Falls Police say is a transient probably should have left his ex-girlfriend's apartment when she told him to leave, but instead he ended up going to jail.

Information Officer Sam Clemens says the man had been visiting the woman around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday in her apartment in the 300 block of North Spring Avenue, but when she asked him to leave, he didn't want to go.

Clemens says the 30-year-old woman was able to get him out of the apartment, but he broke a window and climbed back inside. He says Richard James Sheppard, 31, was in the apartment when police arrived.

Sheppard was arrested for first-degree burglary and resisting arrest.
