My kids often ask me, "Dad, how high do you think that plane is flying?", or "What kind of plane is that?" when looking at planes flying overhead. I usually try to respond with some sort of "Quick! Make-something-up-to-sound-brilliant" which doesn't always work.

Now we can find out the details of an overhead fight from our smartphones. (sorry, flip phoners). Apple's personal assistant, Siri, as well as Androids personal assistant, can be asked, "Which flights are overhead right now?" or simply, "planes overhead."

Here's what happens:

planes overhead screen 2

planes overhead screen 3

Flight number, type of aircraft, distance, even the angle of entry available instantly. This will go down as the coolest feature I've found to-date on my smartphone.

Now, only if Siri could understand me when asking for directions to Cheese World for a pound of gouda...
