I can still hear my Grandma Minnie singing the song Harvest Moon.

Snow time ain't no time to stay outdoors and spoon,
So shine on, shine on harvest moon, for me and my gal.

It was one of those songs you grew up with. Sort of an old standard that the old timers would sing. Probably while rocking a grandchild to sleep.

Oh, Shine on, shine on harvest moon, up in the sky;
I ain't had no lovin' since April, January, June or July.
Snow time ain't no time to stay outdoors and spoon,
So shine on, shine on harvest moon, for me and my gal.

The lyric is pretty saucy wouldn't you say?  Hey, that song came out in 1931!

I heard Dan and Tammy talking about the Harvest Moon Monday morning on Kickin' Country. Supposedly they call it the harvest moon because the moon provides extra 'light' for farmers and gatherers to bring in the harvest before the weather turns bitter cold.

According to Earthsky.com, it's not just a Harvest Moon, it's a Super Moon!

What makes this moon a supermoon? This year’s Harvest Moon qualifies as a supermoon because the moon turns full less than one day after reaching lunar perigee – the moon’s closest point to Earth for the month. Read more about the 2014 supermoons here.

I just checked my smart phone that I use courtesy of Sprint in Sioux Falls. According to the Samsung Galaxy S4 tonight is indeed a FULL moon. And the Harvest Moon will continue for a couple of days.

Guess that's a subtle hint from Mother Nature that we better get busy with yard clean up and getting ready for colder weather. It's on the way!
