Hank Williams, Jr. Turns Iowa State Fair Stage Into Political Platform, Makes Jabs at President Obama

Despite President Obama’s constant referral to his Christian heritage, it seems as though Hank Williams, Jr. still questions the President’s personal religious beliefs. That mistrust was first spotlighted in the song ‘Keep the Change,’ a track from the singer’s latest album, ‘Old School, New Rules,’ and during an otherwise entertaining set at the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 17, the ‘All My Rowdy Friends’ singer once again used his entertainer status to voice his distaste for the leader of the United States.

“We’ve got a Muslim president who hates farming, hates the military, hates the US and we hate him!” the singer just after a patriotic chant erupted in the crowd following a performance of ‘We Don’t Apologize for America,’ according to Metromix Des Moines. The cheers he garnered from the crowd following his commentary were reportedly loud and enthusiastic.

When contacted for a comment on the slur, Brad Anderson, an Iowa representative of the Obama campaign, said in an email, “That type of absurd nonsense doesn’t really deserve a response. Obama is a Christian.”

Hank Jr. first gained notoriety for his political insight last October after he voiced his opinions on the current Commander-in-Chief during an appearance on ‘Fox and Friends.’ Though the singer issued an apology for comparing Obama to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler — a comment which lead to his dismissal as the voice of ‘Monday Night Football’ after 22 years — remarks made earlier this year during a Rolling Stone interview made it apparent that Williams hasn’t exactly changed his opinions.

“You know, we’ve got a President that does a call to the Quran or Mecca or whatever,” said Bocephus in the interview, referring to the President’s speculated Muslim beliefs. “That’s what I meant. That’s exactly what I meant. I won’t be changing my name to whatever. That’s exactly what I meant.”

“I mean, the guy is the worst,” elaborated Williams, Jr. “Giveaway programs, hates America in the first place, forget about the flag. [Imitating the President] ‘That’s one of those big rich fat cats that makes $35,000 a year,’ you know what I mean?”

Despite his political outburst during his nearly two-hour set over the weekend, the accomplished performer largely stuck to what he knows best — entertaining a crowd with high-octane country music. Williams, Jr. is currently on the road promoting ‘Old School, New Rules,’ his first project under his new Bocephus Records/Blaster music label.
