Halloween At State Parks
Trick or treating in a local neighborhood is usually the plan for families on Halloween. However, with South Dakota State Parks being open, and if moms and dads aren’t afraid to do some traveling, they can try something different with their little tricksters this year. Some State Parks are hosting Halloween events the weekend before the holiday.
The Big Sioux Recreation Center near Brandon will be busy Saturday, October 26 with their Spooktacular Trick or Treat Trails. Take a scavenger hunt for prizes using a flashlight and enjoy hot chocolate, cider and coffee in the park’s picnic shelter.
Explore trails in the dark and watch for spooks at the Forest Drive Night Hike at Richmond Lake Recreational Area Saturday, October 26. This night hike is fun for all ages.
Friday and Saturday, October 25 and 26, there is a Halloween Night Hike at the Peter Norbeck Visitor Center in Custer State Park. Reservations are required for this hike along a trail lit by jack-o-lanterns.
And at the LaFramboise Island Nature Area in Pierre, bring a flashlight and follow reflective signs along this 1 mile night hike.
