Gwen Stefani to Serve as Blake Shelton’s Advisor on ‘The Voice’
There’s good news for fans who want to see Gwen Stefani return to The Voice next season. The pop singer has signed on to to serve as an advisor to her boyfriend, Blake Shelton, on the popular reality singing competition.
“We know we collaborate well together as coaches, so of course I would have her as my mentor, and she’s so smart and talented!” Shelton tells People.
The couple have competed against one another as coaches of opposing teams in the past, so their new situation might allow for a little more off-screen peace and harmony in the relationship, which was the subject of intense tabloid speculation before a representative for the couple confirmed they were dating in November of 2015, just hours before the CMA Awards.
Shelton has become a permanent fixture on the show, but he’s also itching to get back to work on some new music. He tells Country Countdown USA that his next album will address some of the personal issues and emotions surrounding his divorce from Miranda Lambert, which they announced abruptly in July after years of denying published reports of trouble in the marriage.
“I’ve written more than I’ve written in 15 years, for obvious reasons — all the awful things that have happened in my personal life — but the way the year ended is also the greatest of my life,” Shelton says.
“I want to get it out there. It’s driving me nuts to not be already into that project because it’s all I’m thinking about,” he adds. “I’m doing what I’m supposed to do, and that’s put all I’ve gone through and put it into music, and I never felt more connected to a record before. When people hear this record, they may not know what happened to me, but they’re gonna know how I felt about it. And that’s exciting for me, to just lay it out there for people.”
