On Sunday afternoon (May 14) Sioux Falls Police were dispatched to an area near the University of Sioux Falls and the Sanford Health campus after residents reported hearing multiple gunshots.

KDLT News is reporting the incident took place just after 2:30 PM in the neighborhood of 24th Street and Menlo Avenue. When authorities arrived on the scene, they canvased the area but were unable to find any victims with injuries.

According to KDLT News, police believe a firearm was discharged during a disturbance before someone called to notify authorities.

While police conducted the investigation, people near the search area were asked to stay inside their homes. The Sanford Hospital main campus was also put on lockdown during the investigation. People who were already on campus were asked to stay there, while anyone attempting to enter the hospital was forced to speak with a security officer first.

KDLT reports that authorities lifted the Sanford Hospital lockdown around 5:45 PM.

Anyone that might have further information that will help aid police in this investigation is asked to please call the Sioux Falls Police Department or CrimeStoppers at 605-367-7007.
