Gun It with Benny Spies [VIDEO]
I got a chance to talk with the world famous Benny Spies today. Yep. Benny Spies. I’ve been following his show, Gun it with Benny Spies and have to let you know I’m a fan.
This is quite a world Benny is living in. He gets to travel all around the country, go hunting and make a television show about it. He’s living the dream. They’re working on his new website now and it should be up soon.
Benny is an Arrow. You know, a Watertown Arrow. If you talk to him on the phone, he’ll mention it every time. He was a self proclaimed letter winner in hunting, fishing and having a great time. Getting to know him on the phone a little better was easy. You point him in a direction, and he just…guns it.
His show, Gun it with Benny Spies debuts on The Sportman Channel July 7th at 9:30 central.
One of the things I like about Benny and his show is it’s real. He’s real. While most stars of hunting shows are traveling in fancy four-wheel drives and luxury motor homes, Benny started out traveling the country in the Winnebago he lovingly named, ‘The Toaster.’ It’s been a huge hit as he’s traveled around. This weekend is no exception, Benny will have his beloved ‘Toaster’ at Prostrollo’s All American Auto Mall Saturday June 29th. (9:00 a.m.) He said he’d be there till happy hour, but I’d get there early just to catch up and meet him.
So, what kind of guy is Benny? I’ve yet to meet him in person, but he’s the guy that can make everyone in the hunting party laugh, mostly in part by not taking himself seriously. If you watch a bit of the video clip from his South Dakota pheasant hunt you get the idea quickly. He said he’s always wanted to be on the radio, I told him he could be on Kickin’ Country any time he liked. So don’t be surprised if some morning he shows up on the air while filming in a deer blind in Texas, or while taking a lunch break with a group of hunters on the South Dakota prairie.
I look forward to actually meeting Benny Spies. He runs his TV show, kind of like we like to run a radio station. Not taking it too seriously and having fun!
Oh, and I hope to one day race the Kickin’ Truck against the Toaster. Hey, every child has a dream.
See Gun it with Benny Spies Sunday, July 7th (9:30 p.m. central) on Sportsman Channel.
