Get Fit With A Fin
Fitness instructors are always trying to find new ways to get people in shape. A person can hula-hoop their way to a better waistline, take to the sky in a flying trapeze class, get bendy with aerial yoga or even get involved with a class that could improve your love life as well as your health, pole dancing. And now you can thank the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa on the Hawaiian island of Oahu for the latest fitness trend: ‘Fin to Fitness’.
‘Fin to Fitness’ is a unique water challenge class inspired by mermaids. The class, taught by Kari Roberts-who goes by the name of Kariel (a play on words of Ariel on ‘The Little Mermaid’) has mermaid wanna-be’s putting on a monofin and learning the art of the dolphin kick to strengthen a person’s core.
‘Kariel’ moved from Oregon to Hawaii to live her dream of being a mermaid, and even makes custom, handcrafted tails from recycled wetsuits. ‘Fin to Fitness’ participants can wear and purchase one of ‘Kariel’s’ handmade tails and practice their dolphin kicks after the hour long class.
‘Fin to Fitness’ is turning out to be a hit for bachelorette parties, bridal parties and those that want to re-live the 1989 Disney classic ‘The Little Mermaid’ which is being re-released October 1.
