One of the conspiracy theories going around in the wake of 'Star Wars - Episode 7' news was that Brad Bird was secretly working on it already and that the Damon Lindeloff-penned script for '1952' was actually the new 'Star Wars.' This seems untrue at this point, and unless this is the greatest hoax of all time, it seems all the more unlikely as George Clooney is now in talks to play the lead in '1952.'

Variety broke this news, and though details are sketchy about the project, it's said to be similar to 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' in that it's about a man making contact with an alien species on earth. Arguably this sounds better to us than having Bird on 'Star Wars,' but - maybe that's just us.

We put our faith in Bird, because he's yet to deliver a bad movie. 'The Iron Giant,' 'The Incredibles,' 'Ratatouille,' and 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' make for a solid resume, and having him doing something involving space exploration and meeting an alien race sounds like something he could nail. That siad, shrouding projects in mystery makes us a little nervous, especially since the last film that did so that was also about period-based alien contact was J.J. Abrams' 'Super 8.'
