If someone you know all of a sudden has a bunch of horse hair, it may be ill-gotten gains. According to the Associated Press, a Garretson horse owner now has two horses with bare tails.

DJ Linder says he went out to feed and water his horses earlier this week and found Prince and Dolly had no hair on their tails. Someone had chopped off two to three feet of the tail hair, and this is more than just a cosmetic problem.

The tail is the primary defense against flies, and without the 'swoosh' of the tail hair, well that can be a health problem.

Lindner says he'll be braiding twine to what's left of the hair to help his horses defense against the flying critters.

Meanwhile, authorities says the have no suspects in the horse hair caper.
