When I read his book Born Standing Up I learned that in addition to his comedic genius, Steve Martin had also been performing magic and picking the banjo since childhood.

It wasn't until the last few years that he really started to get critical acclaim for his musicianship. Martin now has five Grammy awards and three International Bluegrass Music trophies.

He can now add The IBMA’s Distinguished Achievement Award to his mantle.

Martin will be presented with the award on October 1st, during the annual World of Bluegrass event in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The coveted trophy is given to artists and organizations for their significant contributions to bluegrass music.

The actor-musician is one of five IBMA Distinguished Achievement Award winners.
