Behold, workers will soon make some parks look new. The changes will be forthcoming for a handful of Sioux Falls parks over the next few months.

The City of Sioux Falls announced Monday that five parks that have aging infrastructure will get upgrades. The parks that will be renovated this summer and fall are Lacey, Bryant, Tower, Burnside, and Beadle Greenway parks.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation identified the top five parks in need and aggressively planned for their renovation at an approximate cost of $1.16 million this year. The parks will remain open during construction, with the construction areas fenced and limited to the immediate area around the amenities being replaced or improved.

At a press conference Monday afternoon Mayor Mike Huether speaks to the continued commitment toward improving the quality of life in the respective communities. “The City of Sioux Falls wants to ensure that no matter where you live, what your income level is, or the name of your neighborhood, that your park has the same loving care and investments as others in town.”

Improvements for Lacey Park which is east of St. Michael’s Cemetary on North Cliff Avenue include the playground, basketball court, and picnic shelter replacement. Bryant Park is not too far away from Lacey Park. It is on the east side of Cliff Avenue on E 34th Street North. The playground and basketball court will be replaced along with grading work plus some added topsoil.

The Beadle Greenway is adjacent to East 14th Street at the end of South 8th Avenue near Youth Enrichment Services. Augmentations expected are a new playground, basketball court and picnic shelter. Meanwhile Tower Park will see playground and picnic shelter replacement in addition to improved lighting at the park due north of downtown Sioux Falls on Main Avenue. The projected finishing date for the above four efforts is November 15.

Burnside Park at its location at the crossroads of Burnside and West Avenue will get changes to the ballfield like new fencing, dugouts and realignment with a new picnic shelter as well. Plus the work will be done by October 16.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation works with the Mayor’s office to target an average of five parks per year for renovations. The outlay for such projects in the recently revealed Capital Program from 2016-2020 is approximately $6.1 million.
