The National Music Museum in Vermillion has announced free "Community Days" for South Dakota residents.

The Community Days program will offer free admission on summer Sundays for all state residents.

To get take advantage of the free Sunday admission, all residents will need to provide to get in is a valid state I.D..

The Community Days program will also include federal holidays throughout the year. A new year-round discount for AAA and AARP members is also being rolled out.

According to Museum Director Cleveland Johnson, they will no long offer Free Fridays, which has been a year-round admission waiver for all visitors.

"We tracked our Friday museum traffic and discovered that our out-of-state tourism, which drives our admissions, was not influenced significantly by the offer of free admittance. Our research indicates that it would be more beneficial all around if we focus our discounts on our own nearby community. And with our free Sundays, we want to invite all South Dakotans to make the National Music Museum a part of their summer weekend plans."

The museum's summer hours are Monday through Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday 1 PM to 5 PM.

On a personal note, if you've never been to the Music Museum in Vermillion, you're missing out on one of the true gems of South Dakota.

They have instruments there where there may be only two left in the world - one in London and the other in Vermillion. They also have instruments from the Civil War.

I strongly encourage you to make it a point to take in the National Music Museum in Vermillion, South Dakota sometime this summer. It really is worth the trip!
