In the newly released movie '42', about the life and career of baseball great Jackie Robinson, there's a scene where Jackie (played by Chadwick Boseman) is stepping in for his first major league at bat, against Johnny Sain of the Boston Braves, April 15th, 1947.

In the movie, Sain is played by a guy Sioux Falls baseball fans know well, former Pheasants right hander Barry Fowler.

Folwer talked with ESPN 99.1's Jeff Harkness about landing the role.

If you think the game action in the movie looks real - it is.  Director Brian Helgeland told Sports Illustrated:

The games we showed were actual games, the at bats were actual at bats.  When (Robinson) gets hit by that pitch, it's the actual game and the actual pitcher.

The on-the-field shots in the movie were filmed at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, Luther Williams Field in Macon, Georgia, and Engel Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and then computer enhanced to resemble Ebbets Field in Brooklyn and the Polo Grounds in New York.

Now that his 'acting job' is over, Barry is trying to land with an independent league team this season, and might return to Sioux Falls, where he has has fond memories of the last two seasons.

Fowler appeared in 20 games with the Pheasants in 2011 and 2012, making 16 starts.  He posted a 6-9 record with the earned run average of 5.09.
