According to a new CNN Money Report, South Dakota's low taxes, relative lack of crime, and easy access to quality healthcare, make our state the #1 state for retirees.

The rankings give equal weight to the following categories: weather, cost of living, crime, quality of health care, state and local taxes and general well-being.

In fact, midwest and mountain states comprise the entire top 5 with Colorado, Utah, North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Montana, Idaho and Iowa filling the top 9 spots.

By the way, 'traditional' retirement home Florida actually comes in at #39 on this list because of higher crime and living costs and lower quality health care while California was #28 due to state taxes and living costs.
