Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" is the best-selling country song of the century and a song that blew the doors open for a progressive, hip-hop-flavored brand of country that longtime fans of the genre are still trying to determine what to do with. "Cruise" was a game-changer — arguably the most influential song on this Top Country Songs of the Century list.

No other country song has been diamond-certified in Billboard's history, although only very recently has streaming data been considered in a formula that decides gold, platinum and diamond songs and albums. The remix with Nelly is what took a catchy chart-topper on country radio and turned it into a song you couldn't avoid in 2012 and 2013.

Lyrically it's not as rich and satisfying as some of the other songs that will make up the Top 10 on this list, and for this reason, artists, songwriters and those involved in the summit to decide the best modern country songs opted not to place it higher than just inside the Top 10.

About this list: Taste of Country’s Top Country Songs of the Century were decided by a panel of country music experts and fans using sales and chart data, a song’s social and musical impact and lyrical integrity. Select artists were also surveyed. You’ll hear from several throughout the list.
