The investigation is underway into an apartment fire that was reported around 4:30pm Wednesday at 1808 East 5th Street.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Jay Titus says the first crews on the scene found smoke and flames coming from a first-floor apartment. They had the fire under control in about ten minutes.

The fire was confined to the first floor, but the building had smoke damage on both the first and second floors.

No one was in the apartment at the time; the fire was reported by a maintenance person.

No one was injured, and the Red Cross is assisting the residents.
