Fire damaged a home in western Sioux Falls early Wednesday. Crews were called to the 5800 block of West Walden Drive shortly after midnight.

They arrived to find the deck at the rear of the house in flames, and a fire was visible through the basement windows and on the main floor.

The majority of the fire was knocked down in 20 minutes, but crews stayed on the scene for two more hours, putting out hot spots, and a fire watch stayed on the scene overnight.

The residents were out of the house when Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews arrived. They were not injured, but their dog died in the fire.

The cause is under investigation.
