How big is the hunger issue in South Dakota? Bigger than you could imagine. The statistics from Feeding South Dakota are mind-blowing and I won't list them all here, but there are a few facts that may be eye-opening. I know they were for me.

  • For children under the age of 18 in our state, one in every five is at risk of going hungry.
  • Almost 15% of South Dakotans live below the poverty line
  • One out of eight people are what the government terms "food insecure"
  • Our state has eight of the poorest counties in the U.S.

Yes, hunger is a significant issue in our state, but there are so many ways that we can all make a difference. Feeding South Dakota's Backpack program is one of those as it  fills the weekend hunger gap for over 3,000 schoolchildren in Sioux Falls alone. Right now, just in time for Valentine's Day you can give a gift of love that will give twice.

The "Share Your Love" event is this Friday, February 13, 2015. For a $60 donation, you'll be providing a weekend food package to a child in Sioux Falls for the rest of the semester. Feeding South Dakota will then deliver a rose and a Valentine's card to someone you love. Make sure you order by noon on Thursday, February 12, 2015 for guaranteed delivery.

To share your love in Sioux Falls, call Jennifer at 605-335-0364 ext. 26 or click here to donate and order online.
