An early morning call from hospital officials to police launched what developed into a homicide investigation on Saturday (July 29).

The Sioux Falls Police Department answered a call at about 3:20 AM from Avera Hospital on south Marion Road about a man with a gunshot wound. The male victim, 24, died as a result of his injury.

Police believe the shooting occurred at an apartment in near West 55th and South Louise.

The victim was a Sioux Falls resident. The suspect has been identified according to Lt. Michael Colwill.

The following statement was released by the Sioux Falls police department:

At this time Jeremy Alan Eischens, a 27 year old Sioux Falls resident, has been arrested for first and second degree manslaughter, 3 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession with the Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, and Keeping a Place for Use or Sale of a Controlled Substance.

The victim and suspect knew each other and drugs are believed to be a contributing factor.
