Sioux Falls Street Crews got favorable weather conditions and a quick-working bunch to put in a patch at 10th and Minnesota on Tuesday. Not bad for the first day of November.

Drivers had to endure minor delays in all cases and a slight detour for two directions to navigate the area because of what needed to be fixed. As a bonus Sioux Falls Street Fleet Supervisor Galynn Huber says the project went so smoothly, traffic patterns will resume as normal Tuesday evening. The project was scheduled to be completed by Wednesday afternoon.

The accompanying video shows that southbound Minnesota Avenue and westbound 10th Street traffic had to adjust their route to accommodate the fresh asphalt. Northbound Minnesota traffic was relegated to a single lane going north with no left turns onto 10th Street allowed.

Drivers were forced to make right turns and use side streets to get back on the main route. The reduced lanes backed up traffic for more than a block, even at off-peak times.

Huber says the patch was necessary. “We needed to get this right before winter.” Other street projects will proceed as necessary while weather conditions permit.
