Daugaard Honors All Veterans
Veterans Day, Monday, November 11th is an official United States holiday that honors men and women that have served our great nation in the military. In honor of the special holiday, Governor Dennis Daugaard has signed a proclamation encouraging the people of South Dakota to acknowledge the service and sacrifice of the veterans and military personnel of South Dakota and the nation during Veterans Day observances.
The proclamation reads
From Valley Forge to Afghanistan, through war and peace, valiant Americans have answered the call to duty with honor and dignity. These brave men and women, and their loved ones, have made significant sacrifice on behalf of our nation.
Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs Larry Zimmerman, reminds us that the reason America still stands strong is because of the sacrifices of the veterans and current service members.
There are an estimated 75,000 veterans living in South Dakota, but that number continues to increase as troops return home each month.
