Darius Rucker Shoots Down Racist Tweet With a Few Words of His Own

Darius Rucker has been open about the inspiration that transpired when he heard the classic ‘Wagon Wheel’ at his daughter’s high school talent show. However, he probably didn’t expect to be slammed with a racist tweet following some criticism over the song.

Twitter has become a major way for country stars to connect with their fans, but one social media user, identified only as pqkullman (account has since been deleted), took advantage of the anonymity of the internet, tweeting to Rucker, “Leave country to the white folk.”

Rucker was understandably offended, as he replied, “WOW. Is this 2013 or 1913[?]” He added, “Ill take my grand ole Opry membership and leave your racism. Wow.”

“Gotta go to bed this has been hilarious tonight,” the 47-year-old ‘Alright’ hitmaker concluded. “If any hater thinks I care what u think. I don’t make music for u. So don’t listen.”

Rucker has much to be proud of with the music he makes, including his recent music video for ‘Wagon Wheel,’ which includes fellow country music artists Lady Antebellum and the cast of A&E’s Duck Dynasty. His induction into the Grand Ole Opry is truly a testament to the achievements he’s made in country music and a tribute to the future impact he’ll continue to make.

The former Hootie & the Blowfish singer’s newest album will be released Tuesday (May 21), and he’s currently out on his fun-filled True Believers Tour with Rodney Atkins, Justin Moore and Jana Kramer. Hopefully he can forget about the “hater” and focus on all of his fans who are rooting for him.
