CTE Students Help Build Hope
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls will be able to continue working with a program called Hammering for Humanity, thanks to a grant provided by Xcel Energy. This program works with the students of the Career and Technical Education Academy (CTE Academy) and helps with the construction of houses that the students are building for Habitat for Humanity of Sioux Falls.
The CTE Academy is part of the Sioux Falls School District school system and gives students the opportunity to receive hands-on experience in different careers. This will be the fourth house in four years that the CTE Academy has built for Habitat Sioux Falls. The home will be built inside and when finished, moved to a site where Habitat volunteers will complete the project.
Job Training (placement and creation), math and science education and environmental stewardship were three of the standards that the CTE Academy and Habitat Sioux Falls met to receive this grant from Xcel Energy. The grant will be used to support the students. Showing them the importance of helping others, and also meeting the need for quality housing for a family in the area that is in need.
Since 1991, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls has built or renovated 111 homes.
