Coyotes Pull Off Big Rally At Home To Down Bison In OT
South Dakota erased a 10-point second half deficit and beat North Dakota State at home Thursday night, 95-87 in overtime.
USD had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation but Nicole Seekamp’s 3-pointer didn’t fall and the Coyotes and Bison went to extra time.
In the five minute overtime, Polly Harrington scored USD’s first five points as the Coyotes would shoot 75 percent in overtime (3-of-4) while limiting NDSU to 2-of-9 from the floor in OT. USD also was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the extra period.
The Coyotes were cold in the first half, hitting just 33 percent from the floor, while turning the ball over eight times.
The last place Bison got a big first half from Holly Johnson and Marena Whittle who combined for 37 points on 74 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes, as NDSU led by as many as 18.
Harrington led four Coyotes in double figures with 23 points. Seekamp and Margaret McCloud added 16, and Tia Hemiller 14. Johnson and Whittle each had 31 in a losing effort for the Bison.
USD won the battle of the boards (50-42) and outscored NDSU at the free throw line 32-12. The Coyotes are tied with Fort Wayne for the #3 seed in the Summit League Tournament with one game to play.
South Dakota (16-12/7-6) hosts South Dakota State Sunday at 2:00pm.
