Costco Citi Card Users Cancellation Mixup

Costco and Citibank have not been married long and the relationship just got rockier.  Costco customers were notified some time ago that American Express was out and Citi Visa card was going to be the stores card of choice.

Over the last few days some Costco members received emails from Citi card who issues the Visa / Costco credit card that their credit card account has been closed.

According to Business Insider the emails were intended to be sent to Costco members whose memberships had lapsed to let them know that they would no longer be able to use those cards.

But due to some systematic error these notices were sent to the wrong members.  Costco says there is no security breach and that they are working on the problem.

Since the error Costco says they have emailed all customers who were affected and instructed them to disregard prior emails concerning the Anywhere Visa.
