Journalist Van Applegate snapped this shot in the midst of all of the violence going on in Baltimore.  It's a photo of citizens lining up to protect the police on W. North Ave. in Baltimore, Maryland.

The photo is going viral.  I can only imagine because of the positive message it reflects. Van posted on his facebook page:

Still in awe that a quick iPhone photo I took while waiting for a live shot went as viral as it did.  I'm truly humbled and honored by some of the comments I'm reading about the picture. But it's the people in this photo that deserve the praise. I was merely a fly on the wall, a silent observer of a cathartic process that saw many ups and downs. I myself was losing faith in humanity at one point.  But we as journalists have an obligation to show all the sides of the story and I'm proud of the people I work with, that's what we set out to do. It wasn't hard to find. I'm just glad that this photo is helping a city heal. The most rewarding thing about my job is we get to help write history. This is the first time I feel like I've been able to take a single image that truly does just that.

How does the photo make you feel?  Here are some peoples facebook responses to the photo:
