Choir & Orchestra At Arena
Listen for the sound of singing as over 1,000 of South Dakota’s best high school vocal and instrumental musicians gather at the Sioux Falls Arena. The 61st Annual South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra is being held on Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd, at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Sponsored by the South Dakota High School Activities Association, this is the largest high school music activity held in South Dakota. The All-State Chorus has 964 singers from 154 South Dakota high schools and 161 musicians from 24 schools make up the All-State Orchestra.
Every year the event hosts guest conductors. This year Dr. Joe Miller from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey will conduct the All-State Chorus and David Barg from Omaha, Nebraska will lead the All-State Orchestra.
During the Grand Concert the South Dakota High School Activities Association will be awarding the SDHSAA Distinguished Service Award to Dr. Rick Rognstad of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion. The “Outstanding Music Educator Award” will also be presented to Dr. Alan LaFave of Northern State University in Aberdeen by the National Federation of State High School Association.
