Just one year after gaining worldwide attention during the opening of NBC's Super Bowl LII, Carrie Underwood's football anthem "The Champion" (featuring Ludacris) has been certified platinum by the RIAA.

Underwood co-wrote the song with fellow songwriters Brett James, Chris DeStefano and Christopher Bridges (Ludacris). Underwood was the one to ask the rapper to collaborate on the song, and NBC Sports used "The Champion" in its coverage of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

"The Champion" Carries a Powerful Message for Many Fans

"The Champion" reached No. 1 on the iTunes Top Songs in the U.S. and nine other countries after its debut, and held the top spot throughout its release week. It rose to the top of the charts again for four consecutive days after the Super Bowl LII opening. Song touts one hundred and fifty million streams to date.

Fans around the world still share their own champion defining photos and videos across social media using #TheChampion:

"The Champion" is featured as a bonus track on Underwood's gold-certified sixth studio album, Cry Pretty — an album that earned the country star a place in music history as the only woman to land four country albums at the top of the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, as well as the first female country act to top the Billboard Artist 100 Chart. The album marked the biggest country album debut since 2015 and was the best selling country album debut of 2018.
