Carrie Underwood will take her powerhouse vocals onstage during at special tribute on the 65th Emmy Awards.
This Sunday (Sept. 22), the Emmy Awards will honor the 50th anniversary of 1963 television milestones. Six-time Emmy nominee Don Cheadle, known for a variety of memorable roles ranging from films such as ‘Oceans Thirteen’ and ‘Hotel Rwanda,’ will deliver the special tribute.
It will consist of television’s role in two major events, including the assassination coverage of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 and the performance by the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show merely 80 days later on February 9, 1964.
It may seem like an odd match, but both of these historic events are often mentioned together as two of the most significant television moments in history, and the Emmy telecast will explore the tie between them.
After Cheadle’s presentation, Underwood will give a special performance honoring the music of the era. The six-time Grammy winner announced her excitement via Twitter, saying, “I am so amazingly excited to be performing at the Emmys on Sunday! Can’t wait…” There’s no doubt that the ‘See You Again’ singer will look dazzling as always, with a spot-on performance — we’re not sure if we’ve ever heard her miss a beat!
The 2013 Emmy Awards will be broadcast on Sunday (Sept. 22) at 8PM ET on CBS.
