You can make of this list what you want. It could be where to avoid during rush hour or a reflection of popular places for cars to gather.

These are the facts compiled by Public Works for the nine busiest intersections in Sioux Falls. The figures are from the year 2014 and account for daily traffic entering the intersection or cars per day (CPD).

  • 1

    41st & Louise 54,800 CPD

It’s not even close. Just think how many people try to avoid this during December.

  • 2

    57th & Louise 48,000 CPD

The race for this slot is pretty tight. It’s possible this year or next could top 50K CPD through here especially since Solberg Avenue is closed.

  • 3

    41St Street & I-29 Northbound 47,950 CPD

A lot of people come from the south to enjoy Sioux Falls. Most of them head east for obvious reasons.

  • 4

    12th & Kiwanis 44900 CPD

Crucial link to downtown plus abundant retail and the zoo play a factor.

  • 5

    41st Street & I-29 Southbound 44200 CPD

A lot of people take that left turn here off the super slab and there’s a lot of city dwellers that use this one and number three consecutively.

  • 6

    10th Street & I-229 42050 CPD

This is the lone entry from the east side in the top nine. It’s a center point intersection which accounts for all traffic coming off I-229 both from the north and south.

  • 7

    41st & Minnesota 41600 CPD

We’ll call this more central Sioux Falls which draws a lot of support from the south.

  • 8

    12th Street & I-29 41100 CPD

Another center point intersection. It’s different than numbers three and five while similar to number six because there is only one signal to regulate this junction.

  • 9

    41st & Western 40900 CPD

More major retail here and the last in the survey that topped 40K per day.
