With the seemingly never-ending winter now behind us, the Sioux Falls Public Works Department has projects lined up through October.

This week (the week of May 12) looks to be an active week with no fewer than nine projects.

Lane Closure – Minnesota Avenue

At 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning, May 12, 2014, the outside northbound lane on Minnesota Avenue will be closed north of 11th Street. Northbound traffic will use the inside northbound lane. The closure will be removed by the late afternoon of each day.

Lloyd Construction is working on remodeling a building. The work is anticipated to be finished by the late afternoon of May 17, 2014.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while travelling near the construction area.

Revised Street Closure – 41st Street

At 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning, May 12, 2014, 41st Street will be closed just east of Sycamore Avenue.

Midwest Excavating will be installing new utility services. The work is anticipated to be finished by 4:30 p.m. on May 12, 2014.

Sanitary Sewer Construction on Kiwanis Avenue Between 46th Street and Sheldon Lane

Beginning Tuesday, May 13 2014, construction crews will be working on Kiwanis Avenue from 46th Street to Sheldon Lane. Work will consist of two sanitary sewer repairs. Two way traffic will be channeled around the repairs during construction.

Work is expected to be completed within one week with favorable working conditions.

Sanitary Sewer Construction on Phillips Avenue Between 31st Street and 33rd Street

Beginning Monday, May 12, 2014, Phillips Avenue will be closed between 31st Street and 33rd Street to allow construction crews to perform sanitary sewer repairs. Traffic will be detoured west around the work area to Main Avenue on 31st Street and 33rd Street.

Work is expected to be completed within three days with favorable working conditions.

Street Repairs – 19th Street and Gary Drive

Beginning Monday, May 12, 2014, concrete repairs will begin at the intersection of 19th Street and Gary Drive. Gary Drive will be closed at 19th Street, but 19th Street will remain open to traffic.

The repairs are expected to take approximately one week.

13th Street and Fourth Avenue Reconstruction

Starting Monday May 12, 2014, work will begin for the reconstruction of 13th Street from Third Avenue to Fourth Avenue and Fourth Avenue from 13th Street to 14th Street. Work will include pavement removal, sanitary sewer, water main, street lights, asphalt pavement and restoration.

Phase 1: 13th Street from Third Avenue to Fourth Avenue will be closed to traffic starting May 12, 2014. Residents along 13th Street can park their vehicles along Fourth Avenue during this phase of work. Phase 1 is anticipated be completed in approximately 4 weeks.

On Wednesday, May 14, 2014 starting at 8:15 a.m., 14th Street from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue will be reduced to one lane eastbound and one lane westbound to allow sanitary sewer work associated with the project to be installed. This work is anticipated to be complete by the end of the day.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete by the end of July.

Emerald Acres Drainage Channel

Starting Monday, May 12, 2014, work will begin to perform final clean up and restoration of the Emerald Acres Drainage Channel Project.

69th Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Mustang Avenue to Shadow Ridge Avenue to allow the contractor to access the drainage channel.

This work is anticipated to be completed May 23, 2014.

Lane Closures – 69th Street

At 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, May 13, 2014, the inside westbound lane on 69th Street will be closed west of Charger Circle for approximately two days. Westbound traffic will use the outside westbound lane.

The outside westbound lane on 69th Street will then be closed west of Charger Circle for approximately one day. Westbound traffic will use the inside westbound lane.

First Rate Excavate will be installing a utility service. The work is anticipated to be finished by the evening of May 15, 2014.

69th Street and Minnesota Avenue Construction

Beginning on Monday, May 12, 2014, the inside eastbound lane of 69th Street will be closed at Minnesota Avenue to allow construction crews to perform concrete repairs. The outside eastbound lane will remain unaffected by this work. This work will begin after 8:30 a.m. and is expected to be completed before 4:30 p.m.
