VERMILLION - Students from Brookings High School and Yankton Middle School have been crowned champions of the South Dakota Science Olympiad State Tournament.

Hundreds of middle school and high school students from across the state competed in several science events during the weekend competition on the University of South Dakota campus.

For the Yankton middle schoolers, it's their 29th consecutive title.

Brookings captured first place in the high school division, ending Yankton's streak of 24 consecutive state science championships.

The Brookings High and Yankton Middle School teams qualify to compete at the National Science Olympiad Tournament at Wright State University, in Dayton, Ohio, May 17-18.
