When you hear the name Willie Nelson, you don't typically picture Brad Pitt next to him, lighting up a joint. But it's something the actor admits he always wanted to happen.

In a new GQ cover story, Pitt admits he had Nelson on a bucket list of sorts earlier in life, reflecting on his past with drugs and alcohol. He always wanted to smoke weed with the country legend.

"Back in my stoner days, I wanted to smoke a joint with Jack and Snoop and Willie," Pitt says. "You know, when you're a stoner, you get these really stupid ideas. Well, I don't want to indict the others, but I haven't made it to Willie yet.”

Though that "yet" seems to imply hope for a future meet-up, the 53-year-old actor says he is now completely sober, post-divorce from fellow actor Angelina Jolie. Pitt stopped smoking pot when he became a father. The alcohol remained an issue until recently, though, but he says the reason for quitting was simple:

"Don't want to live that way anymore," he states.

Nelson has become irrevocably associated with marijuana in both his music and lifestyle through the decades, having become an advocate for legalizing the drug, which he has called "probably the safest medicine you can take." His wife even recently released a new line of weed products, and Nelson has his own line, Willie’s Reserve, too.

"I’ve smoked enough and I want to give back,” Nelson says. "Now that legalization is spreading across the country, there’s a great opportunity to build a company that can help a lot of people. I hope it gives social justice to those who are incarcerated for doing what we’re now doing legally. I am also committed to have our crops farmed in an environmentally responsible way; to revitalize small farms and to grow it as clean as possible. So far, I’ve really enjoyed meeting with the best growers."
