Big Sioux Crests Below Record; I-29 to Re-Open
There’s good news from the lower Big Sioux River in the southeastern corner of South Dakota.
The National Weather Service says the river crested at Sioux City early Friday, below expectations and below the record level.
State Emergency Management officials say that means Interstate 29 at North Sioux City, SD can be open again later Friday.
The highway had been closed between the Vermillion exit and Sioux City so crews could build a levee at Exit 4 to hold the water back.
State officials say the road surface on I-29 stayed dry.
