Jessie Schmidt of the Better Business Bureau in Sioux Falls says cyber thieves are targeting Netflix subscribers via a phishing scam.

“They create these fake emails in websites that look identical to the ones that consumers are used to seeing. It’s easy for scammers to trick people into thinking that they are really dealing with legitimate companies that they regularly do business with.”

Schmidt says the scammers are searching for personal information from Netflix users.

“If they are looking for you to give them credit card information---they want the name on the credit card, the credit card number, the expiration date, and security code. That’s all a really bad sign.”

Schmidt says Netflix will never ask for personal information over an email.
